
During this week’s life drawing class I wanted to experiment using watercolours. I drew the outline of the model with a fibre-tipped pen, and then used a large ‘Chinese’ style brush to apply watercolour to give a sense of volume within the figure. Also important was painting some of the negative space – the space around the model. This was a 15 minute pose.

I was just reading in Katy Hessel’s new book, that it was not until the end of the nineteenth century that women were allowed to study the nude from life. I’m so thankful to live in times when we all have so many opportunities. It’s better for all of us!
